In this Fantastic Faces Retreat - I want to explore the mixed media expressive portrait a bit more. Playing with different mediums and mixed media techniques - we will play with our creativity. This is a great way to help develop your creative style and see what works for you.

What You Need!

Photo Reference:

I will be utilizing a face stencil in my weekend workshop demo as well as one of the bonus classes - if you would like to paint a long, you can purchase the stencil I will be using below. You can also use your own photo and use graphite tracing paper to transfer your image (I will show you how to do this too). I have also provided other face stencil options too!

Supplies:

I will be using a few mediums - acrylic, and colored pencils in this demonstration. We will be focusing on a limited palette of the primaries: Yellow, Red, Blue and White and Black!

• A creative spirit and open mind to engage in the act of creating

• One 12x12 canvas (this is what I will be demonstrating on but you can use a heavy piece of watercolor paper too!)

• Acrylic paint -

  • Choose colors that speak to YOU for the background -

  • I will be using a limited palette for the skin tone palette

    • Titanium White

    • Ivory Black

    • Cadmium Red Medium

    • Cadmium Yellow Medium

    • Ultramarine Blue

• Matte Gel Medium

• Stencils (see available stencil above)

• Collage, decorative paper - I will be creating my decorative paper - pre-retreat video coming soon!

• Assorted brushes
